Root canal instrumentation is the key to endodontic success. If the canal is optimally cleaned and restored quickly after treatment the potential for a successful outcome is over 90%. Presently the gutta-percha fill with a thin traditional sealer is the weak link in root canal treatment. Bioceramic materials adapted to flow like traditional sealers have changed the paradigm for root canal filling. Unlike the traditional sealers these materials are bio-active while setting, expand slightly when set and are bio-stable. In addition, they stimulate hard tissue formation. These properties allow us to use the sealer as opposed to gutta-percha as the main component of the root canal fill. The gutta-percha point is used as the hydraulic pulp only.
This talk will discuss the advantages of bioceramic root canal sealers and demonstrate the correct technique for using this passive sealer based fill.
Course outline:
- Understand the importance of optimal filling of the canal.
- Understand the shortcomings of traditional gutta-percha fills.
- Understand the advantages of bioceramics as a filling material.
- Understand the techniques for this passive sealer based fill.
