Lecture with Dr. Martin Trope - 1 hour and 5 minutes
Endodontics is the prevention or treatment of peri-radicular/apical periodontitis. The disease is caused by microbes in the root canal system communicating with the peri-radicular tissues. Removal of enough microbes will heal the disease. All the above must be achieved without weakening the tooth and jeopardizing the survivability of the tooth.
This lecture will explore the location of the microbes and general treatment protocols to remove the microbes without weakening the tooth.
The overall aim of the lecture is to ensure that the listener is able to understand the biological requirements for successful treatment and thus evaluate new technologies that come to the market in terms of these biological requirements and not only on convenience and time saving.
Objectives:
- Understand the definitions of success in endodontics
- Understand the location of microbes in root canal system
- Understand biologic steps in removing the microbes
